Markus Wilhelm Photography

German born artist/photographer Markus Wilhelm has been living and working in New York City half of his life. He has worked in the city’s nightlife and art scene and spent years assisting and collaborating with a variety of artists & photographers.

 

After getting his BFA in Fine Art from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan in the mid-1990s, he spent a decade focusing on mostly commercial and editorial photography, but he felt a need for balance and a return to his roots of painting, and with this recent series of photographs, he wanted to blur the boundaries of photography, to transcend the medium’s technical ‘perfection’ to create more self-expressionist, emotional images that reveal something deeply personal, intimate and new.
